William Dawtrey was born in the early 1550s to William and Margaret (nee Roper) Dawtrey. I have not been able to find a record of his baptism as baptism registers only started sometime in the 1550s, Petworth parish starts in 1559. His mother Margaret was the granddaughter of Sir Thomas More, her father William Roper had married Sir Thomas's favourite daughter Margaret (my dearest Meg).


Henry Dawtrey was born in 1579 to William Dawtrey and Dorothy (nee Stonely) Dawtrey. He was baptised in Doddinghurst, Essex on Trinity Sunday (14th June) 1579. Doddinghurst was his mother's home and it was through his mother, Dorothy Stonely, the daughter of Richard Stonely, MP that the Dawtrey's acquired their Essex estates.


William Dawtrey was born in December 1624 to Henry Dawtrey and Anne (nee Dunne) Dawtrey. He was baptised in Petworth Sussex on 1st January 1624/5. His mother, Anne died within 2 months of his birth and was buried on 25th February 1624/5.


Thomas Dawtrey was born in 1652 to William and Amy(nee Strutt) Dawtrey and baptised at St Mary the Virgin, Hadleigh in Suffolk on 7th February 1652. While the Dawtrey family was from Petworth in Sussex, Thomas's mother Amy's family were from Hadleigh in Suffolk, and many of his siblings were baptised in Hadleigh. Thomas was educated at St John's College, Oxford, maticulating on 2nd April 1669.
